With so many great cds to review every week, it’s inevitable that occasionally I come across something of great quality and vibe, but just doesn’t manage to hit the spot for me. Enter Kate Monroe’s Mat White, the second in her Mat collection, following on from her Mat Black compilation release. It’s a stainless mix for those warmer nights, that kicks into a very high and colourful party vibe from the moment you press play, but somehow it just doesn’t sit well with me today, probably put down to the fact that I’ve been spoiled with quality release after quality release of late and this was just to much for me from the get-go. For me it’s kinda like that pair of jeans look great and feel great, but just don’t feel quite like you. Under different circumstances I would most likely be spinning this release on high rotation all summer long.

Kate has been one of the pioneer female DJs on the Sydney and national scene for almost a decade and has a sparkling reputation to prove that she lives up to every last word. Mat White is a fine showcase of all of the finest tracks that’ll make your summer listening complete, as Kate’s done all of the hardwork for you, tracking down every last track especially for you and mixed them all to party-starting perfection. It’s an uplifting, seductive and energy raising mix full of class, that touches base with some of this year’s most stomping tracks including Sir Piers feat. Monique Bingham’s ‘Fool’s Got Nothing’, Groove Junkies feat. Indeya’s ‘Music’s Gotcha Jumpin’, Andy Van’s mix of Tom Novy’s ‘Your Body’, Future Funk’s ‘Wildberry Tracks’ and Ian Carey’s standout mix of Soulsearchers’ ‘Feelin Love’.

After all of these years and some of the hottest sets and NYEs this city has ever seen, it’s great to see that Kate is only getting better, as she delivers only the best with the Mat range, all done with the chic touch of class she’s become known for. A definite must-have for any fans of Kate’s or fans of more commercial-sounding club tracks, it’s a big room mix, set for a big loud, crazy and colourful summer!
