(Universal)
Ok, to be completely honest with you all, when I checked out the track listing to this CD my first thought was, “BORING! I’ve heard all these songs 1,000 times!” But never underestimate the power of a club anthem… sure enough, as soon as I popped the CD into my player I was immediately greeted with all the toe tapping sing along dance anthems of the last 10 years. And sure enough it was not too long before my eyes were closed and I was singing along – killing everyone not so softly…
But on a serious note, this CD really took me back to some of the most memorable nights of my life in Sydney’s night clubs and the days now long gone. For those of us who are old enough to remember, tracks such as A Little Bit and Make the World Go Round will take you back to the days of Moreton’s on Sussex, whilst tracks such as Want Love and Beachball will make you feel like you are grooving the night away at the old Underground Café. Then there are tracks like Sugar is Sweeter and I Need A lover, tantamount to Sugar Reef in the late nineties… and that’s just to name a few! I’m sure that similar memories will be evoked to listeners across the country, as you remember days spent in clubs that have long since shut their doors, or changed their name. Surprisingly, there is also a random track for those who like their tunes a little bit harder – the Timo Mass remix of Dooms Night has been thrown in to keep the mix slightly eclectic. And for the young unns, who were probably still attending McDonald’s birthday parties when tracks such as Sunchyme and Professional Widow were filling dance floors, there are some more recent tracks thrown in which are testament to our modern day clubs. Here I am talking about tracks such as Rocking Music, So Much Love to Give, Take Me to the Clouds Above and California Dreamin’.
So, what else can I ay?? Nothing except that this double CD is filled with a bunch of timeless tracks and is a must have for those summer parties, where you’re assured to hear at least one person say “I remember this one! I used to love this song!”
