(Hussle/EMI)

It’s 2004 and as you’re impatiently scaling through rack after rack of pure cheese clothing from the 80s up on Crown Street. Something catches your attention, between the polka dots, shoulder pads, bike shorts, ra-ra skirts and neon splashed tees. Is it that fabulous stack of thick elastic button up waist-belts? Nah, that couldn’t be it. Could it possibly be those uber-sexy elbow-length, black lace finger-less Madonna (circa Like A Virgin) gloves sitting, begging for attention on the counter? Hmm, it doesn’t seem to be those either. Could it be those damn crafty looking glo-mesh bags hanging just by the dressing rooms? Nah, not that either, everything looks brighter and more enticing than usual, but you can’t pin it on one single thing that’s all of a sudden got you in a flurry.

Hang on, what’s that sound? ‘Shit! this is the most amazing thing I’ve heard since The Avalanches’ ‘El Producto’ EP!’ you think, as you wait impatiently for the announcer to cut you a break. A gruff, whisky-tinged voice announces something about ‘Mylo’ – Drop The Pressure’, and you promptly forget about the racks of 80s heaven you’re surrounded with. Dropping the handful of plastic jewellery you were holding, along with the lacy prom dress you had your mind set on for the weekend and you’re on your way out the door, towards the record store in search of the fresh release. Coming from a scene that’s been tagged as losing it’s game for the last year, it’s sure to save the lives of many disco freaks across the world.

Since then the world has dropped to it’s knees in awe of the 25 year old Scot responsible for such a masterpiece. They just can’t seem to get enough, the best DJs are flogging his tracks and singing his praises, he’s been pretty solidly booked with his own DJ gigs ever since and we’re still feeling our hearts skip a beat at the very opening bars of ‘Drop The Pressure’, ‘In My Arms’, ‘Paris Four Hundred’, ‘Ottos Journey’ and feeling our body temperature rising with the vaguest of samples from ‘Musclecars’ and the cheesy anthem made for the 80s (only 20 years too late) ‘Doctor Pressure.

It’s not surprising that after a year Hussle have found the need to re-release the classic milestone effort with a nice little sprinkling of B-sides and remixes included in the package. This summer it’s time to remember the first time as you rediscover Mylo’s Destroy Rock & Roll all over again before he sets out to take over the Big Day Out in 06. Extra tracks include Freeform Five’s take on Muscle Car, Mylo’s latest ‘Doctor Pressure’ which features snippets from Miami Sound Machine’s ‘Doctor Beat’ mashed with Drop The Pressure and of course what ‘Destroy…’ package could be complete without Tom Neville’s reworking of the title track? It’s a must for anyone that missed out on all of the action the first time, set to spark many summer dancefloors ablaze!
