Drum and bass don ‘High Contrast’ is without question one of the hottest acts on the circuit today. Stepping up for instalment #25 of the ‘FabricLive’ series this album represents all that is brilliant in drum and bass and I absolutely love it.

Self taught on Cubase, High Contrast (Lincoln Barrett) debuted on Hospital Records in 2000, in 2002 he released his first LP ‘True Colors’, it was named one of the top ten albums of the year with some even heralding it as one of the top 100 electronic albums of all time. Come 2004 when he dropped his second LP ‘High Society’, it rocked everyone to the core and subsequently he has become the stuff of legend.

Right from the get-go you are in for an excellent ride. A potent mix of hot-blooded basslines, swirling melodies and seedy jazz rhythms (Adam F – 8ball), here you will encounter devastatingly deep beats and dark sinister riffs (Martyn – Nxt 2 u). Cloud hopping through warm atmospherics and feathered grooves, it is easy to loose your head (Logistics – Life Rhythm) but it is never too long before the beats morph into something with one hell of an attitude (Matrix Vs Futurebound – Strength 2 Strength). The grooves will bubble and burst (Danny Byrd – Soul Function) and the vocals will shout and soar (Jenna G – Woe, Sparfunk & Joe Solo – Rapture), all until the final climactic moment where the level of cheese is married perfectly to the humming bass and anthemic hook (High Contrast – Days Go By).

In what can only be described as a manic sensory onslaught, there really is no stopping High Contrast, as a DJ and producer this is the stuff you aspire to and as a listener it is everything you want and more. Absolute magic!
