(Sony BMG)
It was only a matter of time before someone remixed Leo Sayer. The hobbit-like disco dynamo has been in a whirlwind of self-promotion of late (TV appearances, touring), and incidentally has recently relocated to Australia.
US producer Meck’s production treatment changes very little of the high-camp 1977 original. Which, in disco terms at least, is a good thing. It’s unapologetically disco, with none of the usual “we’re being post-modern and ironic” bleeps which distinguish most modern disco rehashes. And it’s a great vocal to begin with, so it would have been hard to go too far wrong.
The Starlet DJs mix is the most likely candidate to make a dancefloor impact, being just the right mix of disco nostalgia and jackin’ house groove.
