(Finger Lickin’/Inertia)
Snowboarding and breaks. An unlikely combination? Maybe not when you consider US half piper, Shaun White, was listening to this on his iPod rather than to the crowd cheering when he won gold in Torino.
Adding another piece to the music and sport tapestry, seminal record label Finger Lickin’ teamed up with Freshtraxxx (a young, music loving adventure holiday company) at the annual snowboarding event in Chamjam, France. The result? The new Finger Lickin’ presents Freshtraxxx CD mixed by A Skillz.
Australian breaks fans will already know, and hopefully adore, many of the tracks on this compilation. The tracklist reads like a who’s who - Plump DJs, Slyde, Krafty Kuts, Drummatic Twins and Soul of Man all jostle for airtime. There is no mistaking the funky beats of Tricka Technology or the infectious Feelin Kinda Strange. Other anthems include Gimme The Breaks, Mind The Gap and Shake ‘Em Down.
Seeing the swarms of people screaming joyously when Krafty Kuts ended Field Day 2006 is testimony to Australia’s love of funky breaks. Ok, so it isn’t every breakbeat fan’s desired sub genre but, for those who dig it fresh, Freshtraxxx showcases some of the hippest tracks of summer. Grab it before the wave breaks.
