(Ram/Inertia)
If you haven’t heard of Andy C, and you claim to like drum and bass, you can turn around and walk away, because I know you’re lying. He is pretty much regarded as being the industry leader in the genre, which is only compounded by Andy being the only DnB DJ in DJ Mag’s top 100 spinners. So, if you like DnB, chances are you like Andy C. Not only is he the people’s DJ, but if you manage to score pride of place on his tracklisting, chances are fairly high that you’re doing pretty well yourself in the DnB market.
Nightlife 3 has a varied list of artists including our own Pendulum, as well as other names such as Sub Focus, DJ Marky, Chase and Status and Concord Dawn. Things get started relatively quickly, with Benny Page’s aptly named tune Turn Down the Lights, Which moves effortlessly into Flamenco by Sub Focus which then blends wonderfully into In Love By Jenna G Featuring Chase and Status. This is easily my highlight track – Just listen to the lyrics! There’s just something about the happy vocals and driving bass that make me want to get up and jump about like a crazy man, whilst also having a really laid back, tranquil feeling. This first sequence of tracks is, in my mind, faultless. I mentioned it previously, and I’ll say it again, seamless. That’s basically the easiest way to sum up Andy’s latest offering. There are a massive 28 tracks on the compilation, and all breeze into the next as though they were made to be played together. The sheer number of tracks is, in itself, mind blowing. Some of my other favourite included are Sub Focus’s Airplane, Mampi Swift’s stomping Black River and Break’s The Truth.
If you love DnB it’s likely you’ve already picked up Nightlife 1, 2 and 3, but on the off chance you haven’t – do it. If you’re not usually into the style, and wanna check out the best of the best then this is what you’re looking for in recent release CDs.
