The second volume of Saturdays at Family features a selection of house music cuts by the German duo Syke ‘N’ Sugarstarr on the first disc and Chris Wilson on the second. There are so many house releases on the market at the moment, and this one fits into the typical category of such releases. Whilst there is nothing outstanding or unique on the release that sets it apart from anything else out there at the moment, it does provide a house experience reminiscent of a night at Family.
Syke ‘N’Sugarstarr’s mix is full of house tracks from the lighter end of the spectrum right through to the club style. It’s a fun mix that works through plenty of vocal laden tunes and it would be a good mix to listen to prior to a night out on the town. The actual mixes are relatively uncomplicated which allows for the actual tracks to be the focal point rather than the level of technicality. The highlight of the mix is located towards the end where there is a considerable build up in tempo and No More Conversations – Freeform Five (Mylo Remix) and Walking Away – The Egg (Tocadisco Remix) get a play.
Chris Wilson provides the local contingent of the release on disc two and his introduction of In The Music – Deepswing (Acapella) into Shining Star – Tapedrive (Tapedrive Mix) works really well and sets the tone nicely for the tracks to follow. Discoteka – Starkillers (Austin Leeds Remix) introduces a chunky electro house vibe to the mix which remains throughout. There’s a mixed bag of tunes, mostly of the upfront and well known variety with a smattering of older classics. No house mix on the market today would be complete without the appearance of the so-hot-right-now For Sale – Buy Now and that marks the turn from lighter beats to a definite club tip. Wilson has been the promoter of Saturdays at Family since the start and if this mix is anything to go by, it’s no wonder the night has been an ongoing success with music that’s fun, accessible, popular and rocking. Essentially, beats that are easy to dance to.
Fans of Family are no doubt going to love it, that’s for sure.
