(Parlaphone/EMI)
Meaning “the tomorrow” in Spanish, El Manana is one of the new Gorillaz singles from the Demon Days album. Less catchy than some of their other singles, El Manana gets the re-rub treatment from Metronomy a.k.a. Joseph Mount, a rock drummer turned electronic music producer based in Brighton, UK.
Available on white label vinyl, the track features an irritating phasing effect throughout. An accordion gives it a French touch, which is cute, while Damon’s wailing vocals which could be soft and smoothly pleasant, are ruined with a jittering pattern of the beats. The track meanders along like a drunken scallion so this track could well do some interesting things if you’re mashed up on the dance floor.
