(Vicious/Shock)

“I’ve got no excuse, I just want you to use me,
Take me and abuse me,
I got no taboos, I’ll make a trade with you,
Do anything you want me to”

The lyrics are unsettling. I expected them to be rapped, or at least sung by a male vocalist. But no. It’s a sexy female voice singing about something that, well, sounds sexually predatory. Apparently the song is about money. Dirty money. Go figure.

Mind Electric, the dance act responsible for ‘Dirty Cash (Money Talks)’, is the brainchild of DJ K Jackson. Hailing from Western Australia, he’s spent the last 3 years moonlighting at clubs across Europe, including the infamous Reeperbahn in Hamburg’s red light district. Suddenly the lyrics no longer surprise me. Jackson is musically experienced. He plays drums and keyboard, and has over 13 years of composing and producing for films, tv and radio.

‘Dirty Cash (Money Talks)’ is a revamp of the 1989 Stevie V classic. It retains the soulful techno element of the original, whilst tweaking with fresh strings, basslines, keys and FX. Perth soul jazz vocalist Fantine M Pritoula supplies the vocals. The Dirty South rework ensures Mind Electric’s debut single has some instant credibility. If the lyrics don’t bother you, the sliced beats and funky grooves will get you moving. Another winner for Vicious.
