Mention the acronym K&D to anyone who’s been fortunate enough to hear, and appreciate, this album and you’ll generally receive the same response: “Ohhhh, I LOVE that CD” in hushed, reverent tones. In a period where dance has arguably become the defining sound of popular music, and the remix overused to the point of banality, K&D have used both to create something sublime. For the uninitiated, Kruder and Dorfmeister are two gifted DJS from Vienna who have quietly created some of the most subtle, yet startling, remixes of the past five years.

The K & D Sessions is a double CD which draws inspiration from artists as diverse as Roni Size, Bomb the Bass and Depeche Mode. K&D also seem to take great pleasure in introducing us to relatively unknown producers, as well as throwing a few of their own pieces into the melting pot. But it’s not an album of remixes, it’s a work in it’s own right – immaculately crafted, understated, and intoxicating, something to immerse yourself in…

To classify this album would be difficult, and probably a pointless task. It’s an organic piece, seemingly different every time you listen to it. The duo effortlessly play with drum and bass, jazz, rap and just about any genre you care to mention, somehow managing to leave the essence of each track in tact.

I’m sure this album can be credited with saving more than a few club weary ragged souls from a rather painful comedown, and that in itself would make it a worthy purchase, but to leave it at that would be insulting. The K & D Sessions are a masterpiece of their genre – whatever that is.
