(Whack)
The first single off Sneaky Sound System’s upcoming album, I Love It, features Connie Mitchell’s soulful vocals, plenty of cheesy synths, low-key funk house beats and a hint of disco.
The first time I saw Sneaky Sound System perform live was over three years ago, playing at the Arthouse Hotel, both in the days before Kink and before Sneaky Sound System were as well known. Since then, I’ve briefly seen them one more time, as well as heard their name mentioned increasingly frequently, either in the line-up for a wide range of events or in a disparaging tone by fellow clubbers. Sneaky Sound System are definitely an act you either love or hate.
I Love It is not about the love of the band’s fans, but about the time old theme of romantic love (“I love it, when I hold you in my arms”). The track is dominated by Connie Mitchell’s soulful vocals, right at the fore of the mix. Instrumentally, the track features plenty of cheesy synths, even a touch of guitar, over low-key funk house beats. It has a very commercial sound to it, almost disco, in the style popularised by Madonna on her dance floor oriented tracks.
Also featured on the single is the Bag Raiders Remix. In contrast to the Radio Edit, this six and a half remix is definitely targeted at the dance floor. The beats step up a pace: less funk, more disco-style house and tending to grind. While the vocals arent as forward in the mix, they are constantly there; it’s definitely a commercial vocal electro house track.
So, do I love it? Let me just say, it’s not really my thing, but that wont stop many people loving it.
