I’ve never started a review with this word, but I have to use it in this instance: wow! Sasha, I applaud you. This is truly progressive breaks, nay electronic dance music, at its finest. Dark, brooding, and atmospheric, while at the same time uplifting, tough and potentially deadly on a dancefloor, this track is a melting pot of contradictions, but damn is it brilliant.

The track begins fairly nondescriptly, with a nice long intro, typical of the progressive sound. Thick beats and minimal percussion gradually give way to tough, raspy snares, a filtered, echoed synth stab, and then, most surprisingly, a distorted guitar riff which sits perfectly in between the punchy beats and reverbed percussive elements. The vocal then makes it appearance, flowing softly over the now tougher kick and stronger guitar riff, fitting in brilliantly with the melancholy yet uplifting vibe of the track. A brief breakdown ensues in which a rough, low, speaker rumbling bassline slowly winds itself around a now more prominent filtered synth line and time stretched vocal, before the track kicks back in to its rocky groove. A second verse of the vocal follows, with the track simply continuing to build in intensity. The track then peaks, with a short breakdown similar to the first, before it drops back in with full force. The rocky guitar riff becomes even more distorted and heavy, a twinkly little melody flutters about around the beats and cut up percussive elements, and echoed vocals are warped in to melodic synth stabs, and a subtle, but heavy sub bass keeps the track moving along and the hands in the air. From here on in it’s nothing but a long, and I mean, LONG outro, giving DJs plenty of time to mix out of the track.

As I said at the beginning, wow. To be honest, words really cannot do this track justice, and I strongly urge anyone with a love of the progressive breaks sound to hunt this down. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to listen to it again.
