To coincide with the release of Moloko’s best-of album, “Catalogue”, German house don Mousse T touches up one of the late 90’s most popular house tracks, “Sing It Back”.

Gaining huge commercial success worldwide the original release and corresponding film clip was everywhere and anywhere for months on end, as were the many remixes. So why resurface it some seven years later? In my opinion it is purely milking an old, although still classy cash cow. Or perhaps Mousse T wasn’t happy just wasn’t with his original remix in back 1999.

Mousse T’s laziness is blatant, not only does he use hugely popular vocal but he utilises another done to death track for the backing, with Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”. He has slightly tweaked it although it is still instantly recognisable as an ever present loop. Roisin Murphy’s smooth as silk vocal has been slowed down, resulting in a dubbed out feel to this electroish house number.

To say I was less than impressed is an understatement, especially as I am usually quite a fan of Mousse T’s work, albeit cheesy in some cases, “Horny” anyone? However, I expect to hear this track out and about in the coming weeks and the looks of “OMG I love this track” are sure to appear around the room as it comes on. I guess the label, Mousse T, Moloko, and commercial crowds all come up smiling.
