The Valentinos have an infectious immediacy to their music that makes it feel like you’re hearing them living. This trio of remixes of tracks from the band do the same, but rather than transporting you to a boisterous noisy rock gig, instead it’s a heaving sweaty dance floor.
The original Man With The Gun (The Valentino’s anthemic first single) is a fast, messy rock track. On both of his remixes, Headman, in-demand producer and remixer of the moment, adds an electronic basis to the track that doesn’t detract from its rock origins, ala the danceable guitars of Franz Ferdinand and co. The main difference between the Don’t Stop Remix and the B-side Headman Dub remix is as expected the dubbing out of many of the vocals in the latter.
The 12” is rounded out with a remix of the devilish track CCTV, also taken from The Valentino’s debut self-titled EP. This time the remix comes courtesy of fellow Sydney-siders Bang Gang and Van She (how many remixers is that??) A mashed-up remix, I think the description of the approach in the press release as “pick-it-up and smash-it-up” sums it up perfectly. Expect all three remixes to be unleashed on a dance floor near you.
