The name Om is synonymous with deep soulful house, and their latest instalment, a 3 disc compilation entitled ‘OM Summer Sessions’, represents this magnificently.

The Groove Junkies start the compilation with the follow up mix to their House of OM CD. They’ve crafted a style influenced by soul, funk, r&b, jazz, gospel, and latin rhythms. They DJ, they write, they produce, they remix. Pumping soulful grooves, uplifting lyrics, and unforgettable hooks are the addiction behind the Groove Junkies. Starting the CD off on a jazzy tip, the beautifully blended and compiled CD is highlighted at track 7 by Frankie Knuckle’s “Gimme Gimme (Disco Shimmy)”.

On Disc 2, Chuck Loves presents his debut mix CD and it’s a killer one at that! Chuck Love (aka Charlie Erickson) has found his calling behind the decks and the microphone where the groove is musical and solid, good vibes flow out of the hi-fi as infectious hooks float, smoky chords punch, and solos fly.

Boasting 3 singles and 2 remixes on this CD alone, it’s no wonder Chuck is one of USA’s finest house producers. Chuck’s track “Back in My Life” was one of the biggest tracks of WMC 2005. His CD just oozes funk. An easy listening CD that can make you groove whether listening to this at 11am at work, 4pm out by the pool or 2am in a nightclub.

Behind the decks Chuck Love is a true performer – juggling vocals, guitar, flute, sawed-off black trumpet, percussion, and weird little keyboard things… bumping through a set that runs from lush chords and organic textures to straight up speaker freakin’ electro-thump – there’s a truck load of soul, funk, fire, and Love packed into this skinny white dude.

The final disc of this compilation is put together by the founder and head honcho of Om Records, DJ Fluid. Fluid’s sound is diverse and his landmark DJ sets combine everything from Chicago House to Nu Jazz to Brazilian Rhythms. His disc is a little bit more upbeat than the previous two, which through my eyes makes it the highlight of the compilation. A well programmed disc with funky vocals and a few killer tracks, highlighted by track 14 Troydon- How I Feel.

If you want an easy listening, jazzy, funky, down tempo, uplifting, summer house CD to play while your sipping back beers around the pool, or cruising the streets in your car, then I couldn’t recommend this compilation enough. Being fortunate enough to receive this CD during the depths of winter here in Australia, I look forward to leaving it in the stereo for the duration of summer, as it’s clean beats and uplifting house anthems will no doubt resonate throughout our long hot summer. A must-buy for any deep house lovers, or punters who just love to lounge around and listen to sun kissed quality beats.
