The intro is nothing like what is to follow. Well, not really anyway. It is not as spacey and dreamy but then again it does have those distinctive bongos.

You can somewhat hear the elegance, the experience and the knowledge of sound that exists through Jeff Bennett’s work before you even read the bio. There seems to be an influence of dub, techno, house, acid and even some calypso reggae all mashed up into a neat and patterned artwork that is Endwise.

There is an obvious light heartedness in his work, a “don’t take life too seriously’ attitude and a mixture of hardened raw beats which become null and void with the complementation of beautiful echoes and delicately created sounds. See track 3- ‘Allocations’ for more details.

There is of course those tracks that would just sound magnificent on a loud and powerful sound system. ‘Low gravity’ is such a track. With telephone noises, winding shrieks and distorted echoes layered over an infectious bass line this track is a monster, well perhaps not the next club hit, but in the hands of a proper dj would be a sheer orgasm at 3 am in the morning. At the club of course.

Its interesting to glide through the different array of tracks and the manner in which they evoke their own vibe on to your senses. I think a good producer can create feeling and an even better one can create different types of feelings. ‘Prototype’ takes us to some sort of retarded lounge room where nothing is quite as it seems and yet is perfectly normal. What I mean to say is that there is such a variety in Bennett’s sound but still he somehow keeps the same thread of his sound.

Did someone say acid? ‘What is this’ is the track. I suppose it isn’t a typical acid track but even a fool would feel the signature Roland 303 pulsating through the speakers. Percussive, up beat and lightheartedly fun, definitely DJ friendly as well as giving a Sunday morning type of happiness. Its weird but even in a more upbeat track like this one there is a sensitivity, a type of unique balance that is apparent in Jeff Bennett’s work. The culmination of organic sounds mixed in with the future of tomorrow, the blending of techno and dub, progressive and electronica.

I think ‘faster winds’ is an amazing way to end his album, beginning with an epic sounding synth, the track oozes class and is reflective of a Sunday morning drive home after an inspiring night out amongst friends and gods. To say this album is entertaining would be a severe understatement. With a bit of everything thrown into the mix, not a beat is spared and has greatness written all over it.
