Hybrid’s new album has, is, and will, create waves amongst the breakbeat enthusiasts and lovers of beautiful sounds. There are not many acts or individuals that can create a sound that seems timeless and epic. But Hybrid can.
The CD starts off with a delightfully mysterious and enchanting track, free of blare and devastating basslines. Delicate violins and whirling echoes soothe the ears, intrigue the mind and invite the senses to explore what is to come. The Hybrid album has arrived. Being absent from any album releases for the last two years, the world has awaited patiently to see what these Welshmen can come up with. Sticking with a distinct, broken beat pattern, their sound is a delicate fusion which includes elements of electronica, down tempo, breaks and progressive.
They waste no time in getting straight into the action with ‘Dog Star’, which features Perry Farrell. If the percussive excellence thumping through the speaker isn’t enough, just wait till the bassline kicks in. Somehow they manage to tie in certain rawness in their sound with smiling warmth. The vocals add an extra dimension to this track, giving life, hope and motivation for a bleak future. The pick of the album for mine is the incredible energy that is created with ‘Last Man Standing’. A slowly building intro creates a fantastic vibe with drums, drones and tribal-like chants before the track unleashes in a fury of murderous broken beats and percussion. Then comes the breakdown…
I love the way that the album changes direction and pace. The first two tracks (including the hidden one) begin the journey nice and melodically. Before you realise it, there is an undeniable groove in your step and you head can’t stop bopping. After the sixth track things get a little distorted with ‘Hooligan Spirit’ before ‘Choke’ slows things right sown. At the end you are dancing all over the place once more. Somehow, this shift in tempo fits in so well that you down know how it actually got there. All Class.
There are 12 tracks in this album. All are unique, all have an emotive blissfulness to them. There is not much I can say in the form of criticism because it has everything that I enjoy in electronic music. The programming is above standard, the sounds created are artistic and above all, the music has meaning and life. It has soul. I feel that those of you lucky enough to experience Hybrid this New Years will be blown away by the beats, the groove and the creation of a vibe. The music makes you inspired by life again. What a way to welcome 2007. See you in the light.

such an album.... personally, I find that when i love an artist/outfits album, the next one they do doesnt usually have the same things in it that i loved about the first one. which you sort of expect as music moves on... this one, omg. They have clearly upped the anty, moved with the music industry, but still kept that Hybrid AWESOMENESS i love so much. This album confirms why these guys are my number one in electronic music production. Thankyou so much for making music.

Laundry will be pretty awesome but I am a tad worried about it being absolutely rammed. Field Day will be something else altogether, hearing them live will be terrific as well.
