I had no intention of buying this 2CD compilation, it had been staring at me for weeks on the music store shelves saying “come on, just give me a little listen” with a consistent “no” from me each time. Delirious hallucinations aside, I was convinced this would be a compilation of your average run-of-the-mill-house; I was wrong. I was browsing Napster (bad boy) and decided to listen to a few songs from the CD, they were so great I decided to buy the whole compilation (so yes, Napster can actually promote CD purchasing).
Disc 2 contains 20 tracks of pumping trance, and is the CD I got this compilation for. Basically every track on this disc is crowd pleasing trance with awesome tunes such as Taiko’s ‘Die Blechtrommel’, ‘Something About U’ by The Act, Angelic’s ‘It’s My Turn’, PvD’s ‘Tell me Why’ and ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude just to name a few. This stuff isn’t the most sophisticated trance out there, but is basically a CD of the best and most popular anthems you’ve been hearing on dance floor’s of late.
Disc 1 is also quite good. Whilst I was expecting to hear your average commercial house tunes on this CD, I was actually quite surprised to hear it start off funky but start to delve into the harder side of house with great tracks such as ‘Surreal Brazil’ by Florian F and ‘A9’ by Ariel. This CD then returns to the more funky side of house towards the end. My only gripe is having Amber’s ‘Sexual’ on the disc; it sticks out like a sore thumb, and whilst I am partial to a little bit of cheese this is just too big a mozzarella on my pizza.
Overall, not the greatest of compilations out there but still very good. It contains a plethora of fantastic trance tunes and it’s a little harder and contains more quality tracks then I expected. Any fan of trance with that anthem edge will love it.
Having now listened to the previous CD’s in this series, I am convinced that the ‘Clubber’s Guide to…Ibiza’ compilations are very reliable in presenting the best of (then) current dance anthems.
