Solid, funky, slightly dirty and jiving are some of the words which come to mind whilst I listened to this house delight. Spiced with energy on some mixes, The Hiptones have really delivered what I feel is a potential house classic. I do say this without unnecessarily flaunting the term and for those who will take the time to listen you’ll get the jitters that quality house can give.

First up sees the Mark John’s Navajo Lengthy 12” mix, which produces some pumping, funky house with throbbing bass and a booty shaking aura. House lovers will appreciate this well structured mix with well placed breaks and vocal which is not overpowering yet firmly in the forefront of the track. The Mr Timothy Remix has blues edge to it, giving rise to more laid back sounds and a lounge house atmosphere. A good “start of the night” track. The Blunt Laser mix starts with a rolling intro and has a hypnotising bass line but is not as catchy as the first two mixes. More of a set filler. The Mr Timothy Dub mix carries with it a “phat” dripping beat edged with some minimal sounds which has bite and another for the house crew. The album version closes off with a chilled out mix that could easily fit onto a Ministry of Sound Chill Out Sessions CD.

If you are one for house and like all of the above, don’t miss this one.
