With a remixing career spanning back to the 80s, Brooklyn born David Morales has been a household (emphasis on the house) name in the dance music circuit since I was a child. The Face was spawned in 1998 as an alias for David and he released the tune “Needin’ U” under this moniker. It was a huge hit that climbed to #1 in the Us Billboard Dance chart and now features on about any various artists mixed compilation released this decade that has the word ‘anthem’ or ‘classic’ in the title. The Face followed up with “Needin’ U II” about 2 years later which was a commercial success reaching pop status in Europe. His new CC Music factory inspired tune, “Keep it Coming” released only this month on his own label, Def Mix Music, is within the similar confines of commercial dance music.

David Morales and his fellow NY soul mate, Eric Kupper, contribute some fine keyboard work to this single and it shows. Eric Kupper has been a keyboardist for over 20 years and has contributed to many of David’s releases in the past. Combined with vocals from Nicki Richards (who contributed backup vocals to Needin’ U), The Face has stuck to a somewhat refined process of production and haven’t stepped outside of any of the Morales traditions. That being said, it is still a banging tune if you are a David Morales fan and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it. It is a short and sweet affair with 2 mixes (one instrumental) and the vocal mix.

The highlights would have to be the keyboard work and the Latin style percussion loops used throughout this release. It’s a little disappointing that it continues to feel like a Morales work. It’s almost as if the creativity and originality on this release has been left simmering too long and have long dried up, still, not bad considering how long he has been cooking in the kitchen for. This marks another notch in the belt of David, but of The Face, this is only the 3rd release. Hopefully the next release will offer something a little more original in the way of the production work…

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
