The latest masterpiece from duo Basement Jaxxs, ‘Take Me Back To Your House’, is a vocal driven dancefloor and radio friendly smash. Slightly reminiscent of ‘Oh My Gosh’, the song has the familiar chorus/verse structure. Incorporating sounds that one wouldn’t think would work in dance music – such as a banjo of all things! – the song will manage to get even the most stiff person nodding their head.
Opening with a synth hook, with vocals and banjo coming in together, a listener would think that this is maybe a country piece of pop house. Then the strings and drums are unleashed and you realise that this is a pop house smash, with some eccentric twists. The ‘Kwality Kontrol’ remix, is somewhat ‘funky’ incorporating congas and bongos, with a more relaxed vibe. The Kurd Maverick remix is more of a driving take, with epic strings, and a pulsating bass, with some fairly minimal elements. The Speaker Junk remix is the obligatory ‘electro’ rework, with the now clichéd farting blips, bleeps and bass. It is probably the worst of the remixes, as it has a woman yelling ‘take me back to you house’ rather than the original vocals, and is just plain boring.
Stick with the extended mix or the Jaxx club mix, which, as far as I can tell are 95% the same, and you wont go wrong.
