Faithless make more than dance music tunes (and great ones at that); they make songs that focus on the important issues in today’s world. New single Bombs sees Faithless return to the same themes found in their previous single Mass Destruction.

If the theme of the song isn’t clear from the title or Harry Collier’s softly sung vocals (“so much love, so much pain, so much more than I thought this world could ever contain”), it’s hard to escape the impact of the single’s video, banned by MTV and many other stations, which combines scenes of happy life with those of war and bombings.

Musically, Bombs doesn’t sound that strong as first. The vibe is a chilled out one, dominated by Harry’s lullaby-like vocals, alternating with Maxi Jazz’s distinctive rapping (in a similarly melancholic tone to his rapping on Bring My Family Back). However, the track certainly has a way of getting stuck in your head thanks to the powerful vocals.

A variety of remixes have been released of the track, with differing remixes to be found on the CD single and a pair of 12” records, plus a bonus remix on iTunes. Benny Benassi has completed both a regular and dub remix, both of which see the original track backed by solid beats and beefed up with chunky synths and effects.

X-Press 2 also offer up a regular and dub remix, but in a more peak hour progressive house or trance vein. Finally, there is the Galaxy 21 Mix, which takes the track in an even trancier and spacier direction, think big room and lasers feel. Expect to hear these remixes out on dance floors now.
