‘Hypnotised’, by Sebastian Leger, featuring vocals by Gia Melish, in one of those tracks that manages to blur the lines between house and pop, between radio and club music. Despite being a seven minute epic, it would work equally well as a three and a half minute long radio friendly tune. Not surprisingly, this is how it was featured on Disc 1 of the 2007 Ministry of Sound Annual. Thus, this is an essential track.

‘Hypnotised’ is a vocal tune, no doubt. The vocal delivery comes across as strong, confident and sexy. It is the major element of the song, and a dub version would perhaps not be as strong. It is not a typical diva style vocal, but more restrained, and more ‘white’ sounding (excuse the political incorrectness). It’s still sophisticated though, and does not sound ‘pop’.

The track is fairly fast, but sounds a lot more chilled and slower than it really is. Perhaps the loudness of the track – the bass especially – compared to most current house tracks is what gives it a completely different vibe. The Chris Lake mix is similar to the original, but with more of a driving, harder drum sound and the signature Chris Lake bass sound! I would suggest the Chris Lake mix in the club, and the original in the car.
