Sydney duo, Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton, otherwise known as The Presets, present the follow up to their album ‘Beams’, with this remix disc ‘Re-Sets’. Comprising of four tracks from the album, in eight versions it contains remixes from the likes of Cut Copy and Digitalism. As with ‘Beams’ expect to hear gritty guitars and stomping beats, but each with an individual twist by the remixer.

We kick off with another Sydneysider’s remix with Van She’s take on ‘Are You The One?’, filtered vocals and nice punky guitars are held together by a good steady beat. Things get pretty heavy as is the style of Van She and the flange may send some into a rage while others love it. Digitalism add some organic drums to ‘Down Down Down’, again there is serious shredding throughout. This is a high energy one for sure. Juan Maclean’s cut of ‘I Go Hard, I Go Home’ has some great acid groove to it with some excellent synth workouts and plenty of cowbell action. It is a nice change from all the heavy guitar work.

Midnight Juggernauts give us a hyped up disco vibe with their touch up of ‘Down Down Down’, there is a seriously cool breakdown in there and good synths throughout. The Simian Mobile Disco remix of ‘Are You The One?’ is a nice piece of electronica for all the heads out there, plenty of squelches and beeps to keep you happy. The album closes with a nice respite in Cut Copy’s remix of ‘Girl And The Sea’, nice warm sounds and a funky light guitar throughout make this my favourite of the lot.

For those who couldn’t get enough of Beams this is for you, it is always good to see different takes on the same track on the one disc, however it can get a little frustrating over time and doesn’t make for a long lasting album in my view.
