Included in this funky CDR release is the original mix coupled with the nicely upped Flow Dynamics remix and the b-side ‘Rock the Funky Beat’, a collaboration with Fretless.
The original mix of ‘Shock Ya Mind’ is a downright funky track. It has an electrified vibe that boarders on hip-hop, with its beat and scratching used as bridges inside the song. The funky horns caress your ears, and there’s clichéd strummed electric guitars following the beat like a donkey with a carrot. Shock Ya Mind is a sweet funky bopper that will no doubt find its way into the playlists of new wave funk breaks DJs. The Flow Dynamics Remix starts off very similar to the original, however the beat has been altered and a sexy female vocal added. The horns are there still, but it’s been changed for the better from a mostly instrumental track to a funky grooving vocal masterpiece. Rock the Funky Beat feat. Fretless isn’t a b-side that you should go digging too deep for. It’s a mediocre track but has a nice big bassline. The guitars are formulaic again, and the track just feels like it’s missing something. Its only saving grace is that lovely big bassline. It’s oozing potential.
