Marine Parade/Inertia

The name Adam Freeland brings with it a high degree of anticipation and expectation. Regarded as a pioneer of nu-school breaks, his performances and albums are usually benchmarks of where the genre is at, and in what direction it is heading. The anticipation of his recent Perth performance was immense and, when it came his time to deliver, he kicked everybody’s butt sky high, with a three hour set of funky breaks. So how does this live experience translate onto record/CD?

Adams Freeland’s latest offering On Tour is exactly that, an album showcasing what he has been playing in his sets during his recent touring schedule. One of the first things you notice when you hear the album is the background crowd cheers throughout. Upon first hearing this I found it to be a bit of a distraction but, after his recent show, I have found it pure bliss to come home, crank it up and relive the night – and go a little crazy with every cheer.

The ever-present, throbbing bass is still there throughout. This time around, he has included tracks by the likes of Bushwacka!; Uberzone; two of his own remixes of Fluke and Pressure Drop as well as ILS and Bassbin Twin from his own Marine Parade label. The Bassbin Twins track is not actually played as a whole track, but is effectively played in and out, throughout the mix.

On Tour is a snapshot of what has been driving Freeland through this current stage of his breaks crusade, and is a perfect representation of the Adam Freeland experience. He takes you on a journey of sorts. You never know exactly where you’ll end up, but you know you’ll enjoy the ride. Put on your dancing pants and turn it up loud. You’ll be funking it up all over the place.
