Digital Base – aka Spanish DJ and producer Andy Base – has forged a reputation in recent years with his unique take on the tech-breaks sound. His latest release provides a more commercially-oriented example of his style.

‘Inc 2 Funk’ is spacey, laidback break beat, with a slightly tech edge. Built around a catchy riff and chopped vocal combination, it also features a tight array of bleeps that compliment the melody without over powering it. It retains an extremely relaxed, “Ibiza” type feel – you can really see yourself kicking back in the sun on a balcony somewhere as this one spins. Overall, a nice little warm up tune for those summer afternoon sessions.

Australia’s own breakbeat wonderboy Nick Thayer has also provided an up-beat remix. He comprehensively slaughters the original, but in a good way – there’s some serious speaker abuse to be had as super tight, grinding synths emerge after the intro, along with stuttering drums and phat bass stabs. Not much has survived from the original mix apart from the vocal hook, and by taking things in a different direction Thayer has crafted a very distinctive track. While it might be a little too abrasive for fans of the original, it provides an interesting alternative.
