If you’re a hard dance fan and you only buy one album this year, then you’d be well advised to make Peaktime that purchase. It’s a double disc of aural delight for any hard dance/trance fans out there. Yoshi & Dave Joy have put together two discs full of absolute balls-to-the-wall anthems, and for the hard trance lovers out there, deprived of anything of substance recently, finally I/we have found something worth hanging on tight to.
Disc One is mixed by Yoshi, and the Sydney-sider has pieced together one for the ages. Such is the greatness of this 16 track disc that it’s near impossible to not mention every single track, because every single track is a highlight in its own right.
There’s no time for warming up here as the album explodes starting with Heaven & Earth. Following this is an all time favourite of mine, Magic II Futuro that then leads into Bangin’ by DJ Revibe, which takes the sound somehwere deeper and darker with devastating effect. The fourth track in Energizer Reworked is yet ANOTHER highlight of this super impressive first disc. Following this Final Riot is no slouch but it’s the sixth track on the disc that is hands down the highlight of the whole album; Energy Is You, The Hitmen’s anthem is a euphoric, exploding, driving hard trancer that will instantly have you reaching for the repeat button.
As if that wasn’t enough, Masif DJ’s Enjoy The Silence soon follows and leads into The Human Spirit. Eight tracks into the disc and you’ve ALREADY got your bang for buck; but it doesn’t stop there. Next the perennial favourite and timeless trancer Everyday gets a working over by the Masif DJ’s once again.
Running is next up and leads effortlessly into Basic Dawn’s anthem Pure Thrust, which really takes you on a trip back down memory lane. Every time I hear this I get a tingle down my spine and this time certainly is no different.
This disc just does not let up! POS 51, the timeless classic by hard house superstar BK, is the next one in line and absolutely slices through the speakers with that traditional UK hard house sound that BK is so well known for. Shining in Ecstacy is next and has a really old skool hard dance sound to it that really freshens up the later part of the disc.
In summary, this first Disc is seriously good. One of the very best hard trance/dance discs I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard quite a few; it seriously sells the album on that disc alone. It’s so good you could play it at a rave for the 71 minute duration and I’m certain nobody would have any grievances as it’s an absolute dance floor destroyer.
With my heart racing from the first half of the album, I could only guess as to what level producer extraordinaire Dave Joy would take me with the second half. Dave Joy is a personal favourite of mine, through particularly his remix of Dumonde’s Mind Made Up, which is a torrential hard trance track that has a dirty & raw sound that moves me in every which way possible.
The Disc tees off immediately through the hypnotic hard trancer Hypnotizin’ by DJ Wisecrack. Followed brilliantly by the dark Scream, and the more uplifting Sagittarius, it’s easily recognizable that Dave Joy’s disc appears to fail short of the high mark set by his colleague Yoshi.
But it’s the 7th track Lost Vision, courtesy of CMR, that really captures my imagination for the first time. The closeness of this to the opening tune on the album, Heaven & Earth, is scary: you could swear it was the same track. Both times its delivered with devastating consequences. Enigma follows but it’s Alien Thread by Bas & Ram that caps off this trifecta of thumping hard trance tracks. With it’s big hands in the air, close your eyes, rave sound to it, it’s a classic rave hard dance anthem.
While there’s enough in this second disc to keep you bopping along merrily, it fails to reach the dizzy heights laid out by Yoshi. But don’t let this put you off as this says more of the standard set by the superb first disc than the failure to meet it by Dave Joy. Yoshi absolutely nails his half of the compilation, and it’s a must buy for any REAL hard dance punters. Go grab it.
