Over the past few years, as the popularity of the One Love stable continues to skyrocket, their annual release has done just as well. The latest, One Love – Your Disco Will Eat You, looks to be no exception. Bringing together leading DJs in Denis the Menace and Jerry Ropero, Dirty South, and Tommie Sunshine, the result is a production that has a bit of everything for everyone, while enough of the more mainstream material to also appeal to the masses.

Denis the Menace and Jerry Ropero step up to the decks on the first disc – titled Midnight – and it is a distinct vocal flavour. Lucy by Jealousy, Rain Down Love by the Freemasons feat. Sideah Garrett, Tell Me by Grooveland, as well as the Raul Rincon remix of the Syke n Sugarstarr & Alexandra Prince track Are You (Watching Me, Watching You). Expect big things from this last track; although with perhaps just a touch of cheese for some, it is damn catchy, and has already been getting solid rotation on dance floors around the country. The vocals remain front and centre on this first disc, and all the tracks have a distinct catchy-cry to them; all up though, it is a solid offering.

Dirty South comes to play on the second disc titled 3AM, and probably not all that surprisingly, this is the most mainstream of the three discs. This is probably best highlighted by the fact that there are no less than three TV Rock offerings: The Others, The Power, Bimbo Nation) and four Dirty South remixes: The Things You Say ( Cicada ), Changes ( Chris Lake ), Bimbo Nation ( TV Rock ), and Babe I’m Gonna Leave You ( Carl Kennedy and Dirty South ). Scattered amongst all that are some great tracks in Aqualight ( Lake and Leger ), Around the World ( Nicky Van She and Dangerous Dan ), and La Musique ( Riot In Belgium ) – three tracks from my recent Future Music experience that I am still sharing with people in not-so-hush tones. All up, and while not a criticism, this is a typical Dirty South offering, and fans of the Melbourne-based DJ will similarly love this.

Disc three for me was the highlight, with New Yorker Tommie Sunshine stepping up to the plate, and delivering his Backroom mix. This has got a distinct electro-breaks feel to it, and there are loads of highlights. It is four straight off the top shelf from the outset, with The Count of Monte Cristal ( Ghetto Bitches ), Hijackin ( Hijack ), Radio Fireworks ( Surkin ), and the Switch remix of Champion Sound ( Fatboy Slim ). It is a fast paced offering, and if anything, feels a lot more up-tempo than the 128 bpm actually suggests, and it gets even quicker as we move deeper into it. By the time we hit When the Dogs Bite by Sharam Jey (Subs remix gets a run here) mixed into Waters of Nazareth by Justice we are cooking at a solid 130+ bpm. Sunshine wraps it up with the Mstrkrft remix of the Acid Jacks track, Awake Since 78. Not sure whether it is due to1978 being the year yours truly came along, but there is something about this song that makes me want to scream. Hot hot hot. And a perfect way to end a damn fine offering.

All up, this is One Love doing what One Love do best. Together with some great artwork on the CD sleeve, there is a little bit of everything for everyone here; a bit of the mainstream, a solid assortment of new material that will keep us warm during the cooler months, and overall, enough to keep people guessing. A chart topper.
