Sugiurumn - Star Baby

Originally featured on the Ministry Of Sound Annual last year, most would have heard the Axwell remix of Sugiurumn’s ‘Star Baby’. What we haven’t heard, though, is the Goodwill and Tommy Trash remix, which is amazing!
It’s a slice of twisted electro… mean and dirty house. It sounds positively evil. The synths and bass aren’t typical saw/square lines, and Tommy and Will have done something spectacular to make it sound haunting. As good as the mix is, it’s not the type that could be played in overly commercial venues as it’s a lot darker than most songs with commercial appeal.
The Axwell mix, which is the one we all know and love, has a funkier vibe and perhaps a ‘bigger’ sound. When the bass hits you can’t help but start moving. It’s very different to a lot of the earlier Axwell stuff. More electro, less ‘big room’ sounding, and with less drum compression. It has a more relaxed vibe. This is a mix that could be played just about anywhere, as long it’s a housey night!
The original is, ahh, interesting. I’m not sure, but I think it’s an old pop song or something, but I could be wrong. There’s not much to say, other than… ‘stay away!’ So, overall two very good and very different remixes of a song that was fairly average. Good stuff.
