Expect to see Grafton Primary up in lights soon, as their marriage of romantic lyrics and dark melodies are suitable for both on and off the dance floor. With other synth-groups like The Presets leading the way with electro-infused live performances, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Grafton Primary following closely behind.

Upon first listening to Relativity (MC Squared) I was reminded of popular live act Infusion’s Do To You (In ‘82), but the distinction between the two is made clear by Grafton Primary’s clever use of romantic lyrics (“We equal MC squared, even Einstein drank his wine in pairs”), punctuated by cheesy but well-placed new-wave melodies. The catchy lyrical hooks that compose this synth-romance song are almost left behind on the four accompanying remixes, save for Tommy Trash who understands that the lyric/melody dynamic is what made the song so damn catchy in the first place, as he implements a dance floor friendly bassline. Special mention must also be made for Elroy, who successfully ‘borrows’ elements from UK remix extraordinaire Switch on his bouncy bass heavy rendition, a welcome break from the monotony of the other remixes.

Seemingly, due the sing-along lyrics and 80s pop sensibilities of the original, the remixes only serve for making a well written song practical enough to be placed on a Ministry of Sound compilation, albeit via a few densely packed dance floors.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
