After the career-reviver that was 2005’s well-received ‘Push The Button’ album, and the much-needed energy injection given by the Q-tip fronted breakthrough single ‘Galvanise’, this latest single offers the first taste of the Chems’ fifth studio album ‘We Are The Night.’ As is now traditional for the duo, the Brothers have selected another rising UK star to guest on the first cut, in this case soul / hiphop vocalist Ali Love, for a track that leans distinctly towards electro-infused tech-house.
Melding pneumatically hissing tech-house rhythms with crunching beat elements that call to mind Abe Duque’s trademark snapping production, ‘Do It Again’ veers from bleep-friendly gliding electronics anchored by robotic vocal samples repeating the title phrase into an RNB-pop synth breakdown that’s pure ‘Controversy’-era Prince, affected falsetto chorus and all.
While it’s certainly a fairly solid slice of electro-house that’s sure to provide effective fuel for the floor, it does come across as slightly unmemorable and pedestrian given the Chems’ past lofty standards – hopefully, we’re still yet to hear ‘We Are The Night’s strongest moments.
