This latest release on Groove Diggerz’ label Breakin Even is simply sublime. Jay Stewart is one of the rising stars of breakbeat – his release on Menu Music called I’m Crazy, You’re Crazy was a chart topper, and brought him to international fame. And he hasn’t stopped: The Juggler is the best piece of broken beat that I’ve heard in a long time.
If you’re turned on by anything a little bit funky then grab this record. With groovy drums and catchy vocal stabs, you’ll be bouncing off the walls and that’s just the first 4 bars! The bassline heard in The Juggler is reminiscent of the house anthem Punk Chic by DJ Spinnin from a decade ago, and the track dances itself right to the end.
Not My Thing is not exactly true to its words: I rather liked it! It’s a solid, bouncy thing that has you hooked before you know it. It’s a solid set starter, filler, ender…whatever! The other attractive thing about this record is the fact that the cover art is a montage of recent Breakin’ Even parties, including the Groove Diggerz’ last tour of Australia. I can pick out at least two photos of Aussie break beat DJs, including Adelaide’s Marty B and Melbourne’s A-Jam.
In conclusion… Don’t think, just buy!
