The Bang Gang DJs have built a solid reputation for providing a face-melting soundtrack to some of Australia’s best (and messiest) parties. Now Australia’s most popular DJ collective (consisting of Ajax, Dangerous Dan, DJ Damage, Gus Da Hoodrat, Jamie Doom and Double Nolan) have used their staggering musical knowledge and impeccable DJing finesse to craft an intensely enjoyable mix CD.

Mashing over 70 tracks into a psychedelic stew of ravetastic goodness, this double album features an incredible array of music old and new, classic and obscure. A trainspotters wet dream, music nerds will surely revel in trying to identify all the songs sampled, remixed and referenced in this hyperactive mix.

Things kick off well with a superb Avalanches remix of Wolfmother’s Woman, whose jangly guitars and bongo percussion means it thankfully bears very little resemblance to the original. Its mild tempo makes it a surprising choice for an opener but the energy levels are soon raised to maximum intensity with *Spiller’s& orgiastic Music by Night which comes complete with the sounds of a crowd going ballistic.

What follows basically sounds like the soundtrack to the most fantastically debauched party you’ve ever lost your mind at. Careening through a brain melting array of electro, techno, breaks, house, hip hop, punk and funk, the Bang Gang boys provide fantastically fresh takes on well known tunes, with plenty of adventurous remixes and inventive mash ups. There are obvious crowd pleasers from the like of Justice and The Rapture, but also a great selection of lesser known local artists including The Soft Tigers, Bumblebeez and electro wonder-kids Like Woah.

Essentially recreating the hedonistic fun and frivolity of a Bang Gang party in the comfort of your own home, you will be hard pressed to find a better mix CD than Light Sound Dance this year.
