The second edition of this high energy category-dominating series rolls into town after the worldwide platinum success of Ultimate NRG 1. In the captain’s chair is once again no other than Alex K himself – still at the top of the hi-nrg heap . While he continues to dodge all the icebergs (like electro, funky house and minimal), he is able to maintain composure and creativity, while navigating this style of music through to thousands of loyal listeners.
As always there’s no better way to set off on the voyage through Ultimate NRG than to sail away with Alex K’s own Ultimate NRG 2 Megamix, which sets the course for the rest of the album. The girls scream their vocal cords out on Cascada’s Everytime We Touch, followed by a little Yeah Yeah from Bodyrox feat. Luciana. Then up a gear or two with Liz Kay’s version of Castles in the Sky and Heaven by Kinane and then you’re nearly a quarter way through the voyage.
Trouble can be seen up ahead though with Darren Styles crying out the much loved and emotion packed anthem Save Me. Remarkably, Alex K manages to avoid further disaster and throws himself a lifebuoy with the well worked remix of Paradise’s See the Light. The pounding thunder and ocean winds arrive with Marcel Woods’s tech trance anthem Advanced, which gets an interesting facelift with added kick drum. Heavens Cry then opens up the ocean skies and pours down with the highly synthesised anthem, Till Tears Do Us Part.
It’s not long until a quick recalculation of traveling route (and a change to the second disc) that you’re now half way through the journey and seeing sunnier skies and enjoying more traditional high energy party tracks like Frisco v ICE MC’s Think About The Way and Lasgo’s Alone. Cascada adds another track to the track list with Truly Madly Deeply.
As you cruise along on the final stretch of the journey, a couple of Alex K’s own tracks The Beat Pounds and Shake It Up keep the energy flowing before the journey finally finishes and you disembark to the sounds of a rework of Touch Me by Klubsound and finally, Scooter’s Nessaja.
The Ultimate NRG 2 journey is filled with energy, excitement, some adventure and most of all a huge load of fun. If you don’t already have your copy and you love your high NRG music, hurry before the boat sets sail once again.
