Miguel Migs was the man who got me into house Music. A mix CD of his introduced me deep house, and from then I was a fan. I even have a limited edition record of his on vinyl.

So Far, taken from his album Those Things, is a slick, sparkly, summery, deep house song, conjuring visions of cocktails by the pool with a backdrop of beautiful women. With an uplifting vocal, exquisitely produced and instantly likable, the tune contains brilliant acoustic guitars, strings that seem to suck you in and a bassline that’s so sexy its unfair. The tune is something that I could imagine hearing on commercial radio stations, while still holding a definite appeal for clubs, especially during the warmup slot and on more housey nights.

The remix package consists of the Rasmus Fabers vocal and dub mixes, the Eric Stamiles Old School Revival Dub, and the Joshua Heaths Funky Hat Mix. It’s hard to fault any of these mixes, they manage to keep the essence and soul of the original while still adding something new. If I were to be picky, I could say the Fabers remix doesn’t really go anywhere and just keeps on building. The Eric Stamiles dub on the other hand is a hot piece of work, with a Michael Jackson reminiscent bassline, obviously using a classic 80’s synth or an emulation. Its got a disco vibe to it with some very nice glassy sounds, giving a retro feel, but the vocal and the drum programming place it firmly in this decade.

The Joshua Heath mix is the most deep of the lot, and that’s because of the bassline, obviously played by a human on a real bass guitar, and the very jazzy (almost wrong sounding, for those who don’t know jazz music) chords. The whole tune could almost have been played by a live band, especially the blues guitar solo.

This whole package, is amazing, So Far is definitely being burnt onto CD for listening in the car, and the promo will definitely be spun in clubs by me in the near future. I cannot wait to get my hands on Miguel Mig’s album.
