Combining dark and driving progressive elements with more traditional melodic trance sounds, Super8 & Tab are arguably one of the best artists to emerge form what’s definitely the hottest trance label around right now, Anjunabeats. The Finnish trance duo, consisting of Miika Eloranta (Super8) and Janne Mansnerus (DJ Tab), have been producing nothing but quality trance tunes both together and individually lately, with Suru being their latest release that was also selected for the recent Anjunabeats Volume 5 compilation.
Suru is a massively uplifting number, with a beautiful catchy vocal (though you’ll probably just hum it like I do cause it’s hard to decipher what she’s actually singing). A perfect starting or ‘early on in the set track, it builds ever so gently and glows of that warmth that really good trance gives you. At just under ten minutes, it’s definitely a lush long version perfect for the trance DJ to use and manipulate to their liking.
Unfortunately, the Martin Roth reworks that also feature on the single are not as uplifting, going completely in the other direction. His Nu-Style remix is a darker, more progressive re-work that draws out the deeper elements of the original. His Electrance remix is a more progressive number that still maintains the darker elements of the Nu-Style remix, yet verges into techno territory with its relentless beat and echoey re-work of the vocals.
A lover of the original Suru, I found it hard to move away from the uplifting trance that I seem to be in love with at the moment from Anjunabeats. However with that said, the Electrance remix in particular also captured me and earned recognition for its trance/tech fusion, which I also think is a wicked sound. Looking forward to more from this Finnish duo.
