The 2020 Vision label based out of Leeds UK has gone from strength to strength since its establishment around 95/96. Head honcho Ralph Lawson has proven himself a masterful DJ, producer and A&R, even reinventing the label as the 2020Soundsystem in 2006 as a full live act with instrumentation. This new compilation is a wonderful retrospective of the different artists and releases the label has served over the years, as well as where it is heading.

From the outset with Art of Tones’ Praise, where Lawson borrows the catchy “everything’s electric” quote from Brett Johnson & DJ Heather’s song of the same name (which also makes an appearance later in the mix as a Mike Shannon remix), this mix is timeless psychedelic deep tech and acid house.

Lawson works the uplifting Tonka by Nick Chacon perfectly into the acid laced Nosebonker by Burnski. Similarly, Burnski’s tribal tech of Pop3 works just as smoothly with Audiojack’s Enter The Drum, with its sexy vocoder purring and acid licks.

Paul Woolford a.ka. Bobby Peru’s Knives and Erotic Discourse in original and 2020 revision form inject some rounder and funkier sounds, and are pure gold in placement and sound. The Youngsters Third Knife and 2020Soundsystem’s Chicken (in Julian Sanza’s synth mix form) brings a Giorgio Moroder and fun disco element to the fore while Simon Baker’s airy and uplifting Bandit says summer outdoor festival.

Lawson splices Spirit Catcher’s Harmonize with the electronic vocoder purrs and old school electro hip hop of Marc Romboy & Stephen Bodzin’s The Alchemist, finally closing the fine and infectious selection with Random Factor’s minimal Beaten.

Listen to this compilation large and loud and make it your party soundtrack to summer 07/08 – seriously!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
