It’s been a while between drinks for Brisbane’s masters of funk and hip hop The Resin Dogs. Since releasing Hi Fidelity Dirt in 2003 the band have been touring and lining up some high profile collaborations for their third full-length album More, due out on November 3rd. This 3-track promo features Haiku d’Etat ( Abstract Rude, Aceyalone and Mikah 9 ), Blu Rum 13 (probably best known for collaborating with DJ Vadim) and long-term friend Hau of Koolism, suggesting that the time was well spent.

Coming With the Sound was recorded by the various members of Haiku d’Etat in between work on their own solo albums. The beat is vintage Resin Dogs, oozing funk and an effortless mix of breaks. Abstract Rude’s rhyming hasn’t always impressed me, but the verse he contributes is top-notch. Aceyalone is Aceyalone – ‘nuff said, while Micah 9 also contributes a fine verse.
End Game is probably the pick of bunch on this sampler, with it’s slightly more laid back beat and a nice accordion sample. This collaboration with Blu Rum 13 was apparently set up after a chance meeting on a crate-digging mission in London, and features a dope sax solo.

I’ve never really been a huge fan of Hau’s rapping, but the work he does with the Resin Dogs crew is invariably top drawer (think Breakin’ Thru from the highly underrated Blunted Stylus album). His contribution here is all the more impressive in that the rhymes were written and recorded in one three hour session. No doubt the quality of the electro-flavoured beat helped in this feat, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

If this taster is anything to go by, plenty of people will be asking for more this summer.

The last line should actually say "plenty of people will be asking for More this summer". Because thats the name of the album.
