Chris Lake is arguably one of the worlds best dance music producers currently active on the scene. And Carry Me Away is by far his best tune. Logically then, it is one of the world’s best dance songs. A bold claim I’m aware, but one I’m sure you’ll agree with once you have the pleasure of hearing it.
The song has been knocking around on Chris’s MySpace for eons, with fans always asking for the release. Recently at the Miami Winter Music Conference, Chris Lake gave Radio One DJ Pete Tong a copy of the song, which was subsequently played on his ‘In New Music We Trust’ show where it received massive acclaim. Soon there were copies all over P2P including the Chris Lake edit and a very early Tiga edit, which sounded very different from what we hear now. Then the song was officially released on Chris’s Rising Music label on Beatport and the like.
Now Hussle has snagged the record, which can only mean one thing. It will be on a future Ministry CD, and my hot tip would be for the Aston Shuffle mix, as they are just so hot right now.
In a word, Carry Me Away is ‘beautiful’. Lush, hypnotic chord riffs, a subtle bassline, and an amazing vocal performance by Emma Hewitt, along with the signature Chris Lake drum sound (albeit more toned back), combine to create a sound that would be perfect as a warmup, peak or cooldown spot, or for listening at home or in the car. The song is very deep, almost progressive, at over 8 minutes, but never gets boring or cliched. This is honestly one of my top songs ever, and I have been listening to it for months now.
The Aston Shuffle remix destroys the track, and then re-creates it using just the vocals, and then, only the chorus. The boys have created another electro house killer with their signature sounnd, that can only be described as funky electro house with cowbells.
Once again, this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard, and I’m positive it will become a classic.
