Once again, big time dance hero Junkie XL hits the airwaves with a new single _More. In comparison to some of the earlier releases, this one has a little bit more of a commercial feel to it. It has a real raw, rocking and ‘in your face’ feeling and I reckon it will win a few fans outside the dance scene.

The radio edit definitely does have the raw vibe to it but almost borders on electric grunge if there is such a thing, with hard guitar like sounds and resonating bass. This will get some airplay on radio stations like JJJ around the nation. The lyrics sum up the feel of this mix – “Rock more, roll more”.

The Original Mix takes us back to a slamming house feel that still incorporates that grungy edge of the radio edit but focuses more on the beats and the break downs. It does have a certain appeal to it but it is a track that doesn’t have much variation in it. I could see myself getting a little bored with this if I heard it extensively over a period of time.

The Dub Mix still has some of the lyrics that feature throughout the CD but nowhere near as much as the previous two mixes. There is an industrial feel here and makes it a little bit more solid than the others. Still not quite a bulls eye. The Junk O Flamenco mix was a shift to a different gear as it started out with a techno beat and minimal feel. From here, it flows into a soaring, spooky vibe. The vocal here is more just a sample than a big feature in the track and this works a lot better than any of the previous mixes.

On the other hand, the Junk O Punk and Junk O Rock mixes are nowhere near anything like dance. They are as the mix describes punk and rock tracks with an electronic edge.

I’ll be honest for an artist of Junkie XL’s calibre, this is a little disappointing. More is okay and has some grabbing sounds but it is nowhere near outstanding. As always, we are all entitled to our own opinion but those hoping to hear a talent churn out a dance classic will be a little let down. Nothing special.
