I’ve been wanting this tune from Beatport for a while now, ever since hearing it on Pete Tong’s radio show, and his Youtube program. But due to the god damn territory restriction, I wasn’t able to get it up until now… Thus, with its release here, I was incredibly happy – Ride the Storm by Carl Kennedy vs M.Y.N.C. Project, featuring Roachford. This song is beautiful, in the same way Carry Me Away is. The male vocal is beautiful, profound, and catchy. The sound is fast, and pumps, but makes you want to laugh, listen, cry, sing and dance.
The original has a simple, bass guitar bassline, and the drums sound perfect, clean, crisp and not a tad over-compressed. The sound quality itself is on par with the most manufactured pop records doing the round today. The M.Y.N.C. Project Club Mix is my favorite and along with the Carl Kennedy Original Club Mix they’re by far the best. They are quite similar yet slightly different, a matter of personal preference. The M.Y.N.C. Version is a bit more sparse, less lush, slightly more raw, with Carl Kennedy adding more pads and more synths, making more spacey.
The Leggz & Femi B club mix is very interesting, a driving track that reminds me of the 90s, but the vocal doesn’t quite work. The RLS mix is very chunky, and the Johny Fiasco take is a trippy electro house number.
In my opinion, this is a beautiful song and remixes would never do it justice, so therefore, the original mixes are by far the best. The rest just don’t match the fantastic nature of the original.
