Originally released in ’92 on the Art & Craft record label, Bump’s I’m Rushin’ is one of those seminal tracks, borne of the old-school rave era that finds itself regarded in such luminary company as warehouse anthems such like Gat Décor’s Passion, Age of Love’s Age of Love and Don’t You Want Me by Felix. Once labeled as “the first progressive house track”, it stands as hallowed ground to many and has enjoyed various revivals, re-releases and remixes over the years. The latest reincarnation comes at the hands of Dave Spoon (aka. Simon Neale) who has proven himself as a DJ, producer and remixer worthy of taking on such a widely regarded tune. In fact that he’s worked with Digweed, Gat Décor and the Bump duo among many others over the years, and he viewed this as a chance to rework one of his own inspirations.

The single release, this time out on Ministry of Sound, consists of two remixes and a re-release. The first of Dave Spoon’s mixes show’s his style of driving, electro house common to a lot of his production. He fades in the original vocal and synth loop in a building, blending fashion that brings the original tune and puts it up on a pedestal. It’s a stormer that is finding a lot of play in the UK and the party isles with the likes of CJ Macintosh, Judge Jules and Pete Tong singing its praises.

The second Mix Dub is largely the same with less of the vocal showing through, and the third and final track is the original in all of its old school glory.

Some tunes that get remixed ad nauseum tend to take some of the shine off the original, though Spoon’s remixes serve as more of a tribute to the track rather than just changing a beat here or there. It’s bound to get a lot of play over the impending summer, so listen up for it as it deserves it.
