Tom Findlay, one half of Groove Armada and also Sugar Daddy, follows up his excellent mix for the Lovebox Weekender festival with Watch The Ride on Harmless Records. On it he brings together a collection of house numbers that range from the funky camp styles to edgy punk funk.

Nu-disco star Lindstrom open the disc up with I Feel Space, heavy synths punctuate this lunar excursion before we move into Sugardaddy’s Love Honey, a stripped down synth line featuring sparse vocals and plenty of claps. The gritty guitar line in Phreek Plus One’s New York Dolls is excellent as we move into the harder part of the mix, Joakim’s nu wave remix of Antena’s 1982 tune Camino Del Sol is a nice inclusion here. The hot remixes continue with the great sing along dub courtesy of the Glimmers with Kaos feat. Snax’s Feel Like I Feel.

The music on this album is oriented firmly around electronica, as opposed to the more organic sounds that Findlay produced as Groove Armada, so don’t expect big musical breakdowns on here. Instead you are more likely to end up with some crunchy synths, such as those in Bodzin & Huntemann’s Rubin. A cracker of a track. The remainder of the mix features the likes of The Greenskepers and minimal techno man of the moment Claude Von Stroke.

This album really shows a different side to Tom Findlay’s sound, reaching deep across the house spectrum, Findlay pulls together heavy electronica and tech influences into his music to provide an underground house mix that is fromage free.

In a word: Electronic.
