The Resin Dogs are back with their third album More, featuring 14 tracks of funked-up hip hop and boogie. Co-produced by the Nextmen’s Brad Baloo, the Dogs’ unique big-band funk sound has been punctuated heavily by MCing from the likes of Haiku D’etat and N’Fa of *1200 Techniques * fame on their new album, with excellent results.

This album pulls no punches. Opening with Coming With The Sound featuring the likes of Abstract Rude, Aceyalone and Mikah 9, the horns absolutely make this track. Following on, the Mediterranean influenced of End Game features smooth vocal work from BluRum13. The previously released Definition features the Dogs’ MC manifesto, and is good fun with a catchy hook. And one of the highlights of the album is the laidback jazzy vibe of Fine Mess, featuring the Camden accented rhymes of Yungun. The Ragga vocals of UK’s Demolition Vibe in Peace & Love are held together with a tight broken beat and fat synth.

Abstract Rude features multiple times on the album, his performance in Caught Up perhaps his best. The heavy sounds of this track work well, big horn sections and drum track giving Abstract a good chance to strut his stuff. but not all tracks on the album have guest MCs – Thunder is a great funk workout with a very simple riff that works incredibly well, as does the ten minute epic that closes the album Smoking In The Darkness. A great jazzy vibe with the all important funk brought to the forefront from tight work on the keys.

The Dogs are most definitely back with force, and the ever changing roster of guest MCs means that this album won’t get boring in a hurry. There were some commercial moments on the album, perhaps a result of touring with Black Eyed Peas? But on the whole the sounds coming through were very tasty.

In a word: Fresh
