As we head towards summer, and the various associated festivals and general upswing in dance music type events, we also see an increase in the number of albums coming out. One highly anticipated release is Pnau’s follow-up to 2003’s ‘Again’, an album which saw the duo cement themselves at the top of Australian dance music. This promo includes an extended version of first single ‘Wild Strawberries’, as well as ‘No More Violence’, ‘We Have Tomorrow’ and an extended version of ‘We Have Tomorrow’.
‘Wild Strawberries’, which has been getting quite a bit of airplay on Triple J, is just what we expect from Pnau. A big beat, heavy electric guitar-based melody, and a twisted vocal sample. ‘No More Violence’ uses a great distorted guitar sound and will no doubt get some love at festivals, with its chant of “No more violence!” likely to go down well. ‘We Have Tomorrow’ sees the duo in instrumental mode, possibly where they do their best work. It’s a glitchy electro stormer, pure quality just as you’d expect.
This type of music has never really been my bag, but Pnau do it so well. I still play ‘Again’ from time to time, and if this promo is anything to go by Pnau’s new album will be getting play for years to come as well.
