Pure Pacha 2007 is the latest double disc compilation to come from the legendary dance music label, Pacha. The CD series is the brainchild of legendary DJ and Pacha host Pete Tong. In its 5th year, Pure Pacha has gone from strength to strength, releasing some of house music’s finest mix compilations, with these compilations hosting some of dance music’s best events all around the world. Headlined of course by the Pacha superclub in Ibiza and New York.
This mix compilation is an upfront collection of the hottest house music in the world today. Just like Tong’s acclaimed BBC Radio One show The Essential Selection; this album too is a look into what’s making grooves in the world of house music at the moment. With his finger always on the proverbial button in house music, Tong puts his magic touches on the first half of the album. On the second disc it’s an Aussie ex-pat turned Pacha resident DJ, the sexy superstar Sarah Main. Regularly featuring on nearly all of Pacha’s compilation albums, she’s forged a reputation as one of the worlds best house DJ’s. Her dance floor friendly style of slamming, upfront house music has won her adoring fans the world over.
The first disc is a sterling selection of the coolest & funkiest cuts in house music. Tong is a master of fusing together a wide range of house music and giving it his own special Tong-touch that has won him fans in all four corners of the globe. His latest mix disc is a prime example that he is not done with yet as a mainstay of the worlds house music scene. He kicks things off with the deeply hypnotic, bleep-laden Camino Del Sol by Antenna. The ambience immediately puts you hand in hand with the mindset of Ibiza and Pacha. His mix finds its gear and sets on its course, peaking massively with the latest weapon to come from the Swedish producer that can do no wrong, Pryda aka Eric Prydz with Armed. The man just does not know how to NOT create magic, and it’s yet another feather in the cap for the king of house music production. This is followed masterfully by The Cut by John Julius Knight. The programming with piecing these two tracks together makes for an aural delight for the ensuing nine and a half minutes.
Tong then touches on a couple of the more popular chart topping house numbers of the year, with Transistor Radio by Fragmente and Make My Day by Eyerer & Chopstick followed by the Dirty South remix of Sorry by Kaskade. Dirty South proves once again why he is making such big waves in the dance music community with his exceptional pieces of production. Just when you thought the fun was ending, Tong drops in one of the biggest bombs of the year, System by Mark Knight and man of the moment, D. Ramirez. This is an absolute weapon and unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you would’ve heard it at near every good house club and every reputable radio station. A bomb, pure and simple. He squeezes a couple more monsters in before the end of his mix, most notable No Pressure by One + One aka James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli; and finishes the mix with the aptly named Beautiful Life, by Gui Boratto.
Flipping over to disc two and Sarah Main starts with her traditional funkier groove. There’s a plethora of quality tunes in this mix with two of my favourites, Carl Kennedy’s Ride the Storm and Lock Sick by Nu Frequency kicking things off. There’s a touch of disco with Ape Stalking by Beginerz, while Freak Me by Andrea Doria puts that producer back on the map. Main puts one of her own in with One For All, a collaboration with The Cardinal Richelieu.
Later on in she hits you with arguably THE biggest anthem in commercial house music in the world today, The Others by TV Rock vs. The Dukes of Windsor. This track needs no explanation. Go to any pub or nightclub or turn on any radio station for long enough and your bound to come across this track. Even in my 15,000th listen of the track, it still has the same uplifting happy euphoric effect. A quality tune. Another solid pick is Follow Me by Ercola feat. Annie. This is everything that is good about house music. It’s funky, driving, uplifting, euphoric and uber dance floor friendly.
The mix continues on in the same ilk with Main transcending you with her stylish cuts and polished mixes. The mix draws to a close with a new track from the legendary Billie Ray Martin Undisco Me. Its acid tinge makes for one hell of an ending.
Overall, Pure Pacha 2007 is one of the hottest mix compilations in the world of house music at the moment. With world class track-listings accompanied by equally world class programming and mixing by Tong and Main, this is a must buy for the lovers of upfront slamming house music.
