The Stanton Warriors have released some great tunes over the last year courtesy of their double LP The Stanton Sessions 2 and The Lost Files. One of the bigger tracks was Shake It Up feat. The Beatnuts. We’ve all heard it and it pumps.
Aussie producer extraordinaire Hook N Sling was chosen for remix duties and he delivers with an electro tinged magic touch that covers bases in many genres. I remember first hearing this tune at the superb Plump DJs gig in Perth at the start of the year. The Plumps weren’t the ones who dropped it, but it definitely made an impact. The tune has a massive build and utilises the best bits of the original. This includes the ‘Shake it up girl,’ mantra and the Beatnuts’ wicked rhymes. The hip hop vibe is intact, and the large bouncing bass moves the body in some agreeable ways.
Hook N Sling himself says, “It’s one of those crossover tunes that appeals to house heads and breaks heads. At the moment, a lot of the lines between genres are blurring which I really like. The old cliche still rings true – good music is good music.”
While the tune is not exactly brand new, it deserves to be given a release. The Stanton Warriors are in the country over summer and this remix helps remind punters of their recent legacy. I will definitely be catching their set when they hit my town.
