Pnau are Sydney duo Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes and have been busy making dance tunes for over 10 years. Wild Strawberries is the first track off their third album due in November 2007. The track is apparently being rinsed on Triple J radio and has elements of 80s pop, modern electro, and future funk.

The scything synth stabs cut through your very soul. The breathy electroclash vocals draw some kind of parallel between girls and wild strawberries. OK, I can go with that. The tune feels like parts of it are speeding up while other parts are slowing down. Vocals are pitched down then pitched up.

On remix duties is Sam La More who is best known for his work with Tonite Only and as the brother of Pnau’s Nick. He doesn’t do much except make it little more ‘clubby’ rather than ‘poppy’. The rolling bass keeps everything moving at a good clip.

If this is the sound of the future, then at least give me some time to catch up. The tune sounds incredibly crisp and well produced but far too epileptic and psychadelic for casual enjoyment. After giving it a couple of listens I am now searching for a cure to get the repetitive refrain ‘Wild strawberries, wild strawberries’ out of my head!
